The perforated hull anode type Vetus made of magnesium protects the metal parts of the underwater hull and the drive from electrochemical corrosion, especially in fresh water and brackish water. The less noble magnesium sacrifices itself, so to speak, for the more noble metals used, for example, for the propeller, drive shaft or sea valves and protects them from pitting. This sacrificial anode can be mounted using screws, bolts or rivets. As a rule, the anode must be replaced annually during winter storage, or twice a year in the case of very severe degradation.
