The Vetus conical magnesium shaft anode protects the metal parts of the underwater hull and the drive from electrochemical corrosion, especially in fresh and brackish water. The less noble magnesium sacrifices itself, so to speak, for the more noble metals, which are used for the propeller, drive shaft or sea valves, for example, and protects them from pitting. This sacrificial anode is mounted on the propeller shaft using a screw. As a rule, the anode must be replaced annually during winter storage, or twice a year in the case of very severe degradation.
