The Boat & Equipment Service offers professional services related to safety, equipment maintenance, and onboard technology that do not clearly fall into other product categories. This is not about “buying parts,” but about work performed to the highest standards—so that your equipment functions reliably in everyday use, meets inspection and manufacturer requirements, and you avoid any unpleasant surprises on the water.
The focus is on our life jacket service (inspection, maintenance, repair) for automatic life jackets—including brands such as Spinlock, Besto, Talamex, and Osculati. Goal: maximum operational reliability, legally compliant documentation (depending on use), and a technically flawless condition of the trigger, CO₂ cartridge, bladder, and harness.
In addition, we offer rope work services (rigging & splicing) as well as winch maintenance & repair. As a gift option, we also offer gift certificates for the JS Maritimshop & Boat Service as well as for the JS Yacht School & Sailing Trips.
Note: Rope & splicing services can also be found under Rope & Sailmaker. This service category serves as a central point of contact for services, orders, submissions, and special requests related to boats and equipment.
Typically, this includes inspection, maintenance, and—if necessary—repair of your automatic life jacket. Depending on the model, this may include visual and functional checks, inspection of the bladder, harness, and seams, testing of the release mechanism and CO₂ cartridge, as well as replacement of worn parts as needed. The goal is reliable performance in an emergency and a defined, documented condition.
The service is designed for automatic life jackets from brands such as Spinlock, Besto, Talamex, and Osculati. The specific jacket model and the appropriate service kit (deployer/cartridge) are crucial. If you send us the model name or a photo of the nameplate, we can quickly confirm whether the jacket is serviceable.
As a general rule: regularly and in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions (the interval depends on the model, age, and usage). It is advisable to have at least one inspection before the season begins, as well as after events such as deployment, heavy wetting, or prolonged storage in damp conditions. For intensive use (charter, training, professional), a shorter interval is often advisable.
Yes. A condition check is particularly advisable for older or damaged vests. Whether and how a repair is possible will be determined by the assessment (material condition, buoyancy chamber, seams, harness, availability of replacement parts). If a repair is not advisable or no longer safe, you will receive clear feedback.
We manufacture load-bearing end connections such as eye splices, end connections, and rigging for mooring lines, anchor lines, sheets, and halyards—clean, precise, and suitable for use on board. The goal is a permanently secure, easy-to-handle connection instead of “compromise knots.”
We prefer to work with Liros, but can also process Gleistein and Robline upon request. In many cases, we can process both new lines and customer-supplied lines—provided the condition and construction (core/sheath) are suitable for the desired splice.
Ideally: rope type/brand, diameter, length, desired end connection (eye/end), desired eye length or dimensional specifications, and the intended use (mooring line/anchor line/sheet/halyard). For custom solutions (e.g., chain connection), please also provide photos/dimensions of the fittings.
We handle the professional disassembly, cleaning, inspection, and repair of your winch, including the replacement of typical wear parts (e.g., pawls/springs, bearings, seals)—depending on condition. This service is particularly relevant for common winches from the Lewmar and Harken brands. The scope of work and parts required are determined by diagnosis and exploded view/model identification.
Vouchers can be used flexibly—for services and purchases at the JS Maritimshop & Boat Service as well as for offers from the JS Yacht School & Sailing Trips. Ideal as a gift or for budget planning (e.g., winter storage checks, deck service, rigging service).
Generally: Create an order (form/order), send in or drop off equipment, inspection/diagnosis, followed by maintenance/repair. If additional parts or extra work are needed, we’ll consult with you before costs get out of hand. Upon completion, you’ll receive your equipment back inspected and ready for use—including documentation, where applicable.
