First, check the voltage (12/24 V DC or 230 V AC) and rated current (e.g., 16A for shore power). Then consider the connector system/standard (e.g., CEE for shore power, Schuko only via suitable adapters/distributors), installation location (indoor/outdoor), and the protection rating (splash-proof/moisture-proof). For outdoor installation, robust, tightly sealed junction boxes with covers and corrosion-resistant contacts are recommended.

CEE or Schuko – what is common on board and what is safe?

For shore power on boats, CEE 230V 16A is the standard because the plug connection is mechanically more stable and clearly defined. Schuko can be used as a temporary solution (e.g., via adapter cables or splitters), but should not be the “permanent solution” for outdoor shore power supply. If in doubt, refer to the existing onboard shore power outlet and the marina’s system.
